Helen Richmond Young REID - C.B.E. (1935) social worker, Educationist ; born Montreal, P.Q. daughter of Robert Reid and Eliza Ann McIntosh. Educated: kindergarten girls’ high school ; McGill University (gold medallist ) BA. 1899; LL,D. 1921 ; Germany and Switzerland ; Queen’s University, LL.D, 1916. 

Gov. fellow of  McGill University, 15 yrs.; director of  Montreal School of Social WorkMcGill School of Grad Nurses; Financial Federation; Council of Social Agencies;  member of  board. of governors, Victorian Order of Nurses of Canada, vice-president of Canadian Council on Child and Family Welfare; hon president of  the Montreal Family Welfare Association ; Montreal Health Services of Financial Federation; director of the Montreal Child Welfare Association; chairman of  the immigration section of the Canadian. National Comte. Mental Hygene; director of  Frontier CoIlege;  former member of  Dominion Health Council; Govt. Repatriation Comn.; convener, Canadian Patriotic Fund ; honorary President of the  Montreal municipal chapter of  I.O.D.E.; 

Awarded Medaille de Reconnaissance by the French government for service to French reservist families in Canada ; received the Italian Red Cross gold medal for similar service to Italian reservist families ; cr. Lady of Grace of  St. John of Jerusalem, by the late king George V;  awarded King's Jubilee Medal 1935 ; Coronation Medal 1937 ; 

Editor and collaborator of  ‘‘The Canadian Ukrainians’’, ‘‘The Canadian Japanese’’, and translator from French and German, articles on  health, vols., social work, citizenship, and poems for various journals and magazines.
